The documentary starts with upbeat, joyful music but the narrative hints satire with one of his comment. Michael Moore throughout the documentary makes remarks to mock America and how it functions as a country. The comedic sense if firstly introduced in the first piece of actuality footage where Michael visits a bank where when you make an account you receive a free gun along with it. It screams to the audience the accessibility and ease to obtain a rifle. This is presented in a comedic fashion by Michael the way he talks to the bank employees and how he walks out of the bank holding it, almost as if its a joke.

The comedic nature of America's gun law is kept throughout with the use of sarcasm during the voice-over and when interviewing people. The mood can change very unexpectedly however when tragic moments are spoken about. Michael focuses on events such as the Columbine shooting and shows several moments of stock footage where the tragedy is emphasised by victims crying. The focus on these events means we are able to see the cause of gun laws in an extreme matter. Guns are a   main theme that sticks along with the audience. Guns can be used as a tool to put your blame on but Michael redirects it to seem like a problem that humans are causing along with the accessibility of guns. 

In the documentary it outlines how a 6 year old boy shot a 6 year old girl in an elementary School. As an audience we put this down to the availability of guns as for a child to strive towards the want of murdering another child with a weapon that they are not familiar with seems unbelievable.   1. Really good start Liam, you have clearly outlined the conventions of documentary, it would be great for you to define them and explain how they can communicate information to an audience.

    In addition to this you have been able to analyse two examples of documentaries' uses of these techniques. Ultimatly, i would like you to compare these instances and justify which you think is more effective.
